A LITTLE CULTURAL ESCAPE

A Weekend in Vienna

An exhibition, a coffee, a concert · 23–25 October 2026

Autumn suits Vienna beautifully: the chestnut trees turn to gold, the windows of the coffee houses mist over and the city's evenings turn to music. This month's escape brings two stops from our selection together in a single weekend.

Saturday · Morning

Picasso – Bacon

Albertina · albertina.at

Start the day early and wander unhurriedly through the two masters' galleries before the crowds arrive. Then take a short break on the Albertina terrace, with its view over the Opera and the Burggarten.

Saturday · Afternoon

A Viennese coffee house

One of the city's historic coffee houses

A melange on a silver tray, with a glass of water and a slice of cake alongside. In Vienna, coffee is never rushed: newspapers are read, conversations unfold, time slows down.

Saturday · Evening

Yuja Wang and Wiener Symphoniker

Musikverein · Golden Hall · musikverein.at

Barber's Piano Concerto and Schumann's Second Symphony. Dress elegantly but simply for the evening; the hall's gilding is dazzling enough.

Sunday · Morning

A matinee or a walk through the city

Musikverein · 25 October matinee

If you couldn't find tickets for Saturday, try the concert's Sunday matinee. Or walk along the Ring and bid the day farewell in the Volksgarten, carpeted with autumn leaves.

Zarif Yaşam Note

Concert tickets sell out early; buy them from the Musikverein's own box office. Booking a timed-entry ticket for the exhibition in advance shortens the queue.

What to Pack?

Comfortable walking shoes, a fine knit, an elegant shawl for the evening and an umbrella. Vienna in October is cool and full of surprises.

"Beauty reveals itself to those who make time for it."
