In the Light of Autumn
Dear Readers,
October light has a beauty all its own. As it filters in through the window, it softens the colours of a room and dresses the garden in an entirely different hue. We find ourselves wanting to linger a little longer over a cup of coffee, to turn the pages of a beloved book, to return to a pastime we have long put off. As the season changes, room opens up within us for new longings, too.
That is partly why I love autumn. After the bustling days of summer, the time we set aside for our homes, for ourselves and for the people we love takes on a different flavour. A conversation that stretches on at the table, a pattern slowly unfolding across fabric, a leaf we notice on a walk… So much of what brings us joy in a day lies hidden in the small details.
It was this feeling that guided us as we prepared the October issue of Zarif Yaşam. In our pages we have brought together the colours of the season, the joy of making, the thrill of learning and the many ways of taking good care of ourselves. We also invite you to a grape harvest in Provence, and along an art route that stretches from Istanbul into Europe. Our hope is that on every page you will find an idea to weave into your daily life, a detail to make you smile, or a new pastime you will want to try.
Zarif Formulas, appearing for the very first time this month, brings the pleasure of making things with our own hands into the magazine. It invites us to get to know the products we use more closely, to understand their ingredients and to learn how they are made. Preparing something step by step, seeing the result and acquiring a new skill brings a satisfaction all of its own.
In our Health & Longevity pages, meanwhile, we consider how to remain strong and vibrant in the midst of life as the years go by. To move with ease, to keep our curiosity alive, to carry on with the pastimes we love… These wishes for the future take on meaning through the time we give ourselves today.
Handwork, too, holds a special place for me in this issue. The patiently finished details of a piece of embroidery, the hands that give shape to fabric, the pride felt once the work is complete… While we make, we forget how the time passes; when we finish, we see the trace of our own labour. Sometimes even returning to a skill we learned years ago gives us the feeling of a brand-new beginning.
I hope that, somewhere among the pages of this issue, you find a moment that is yours alone. Perhaps a recipe will draw you into the kitchen, perhaps you will change a corner of your home, or perhaps you will take up once more a piece of work left unfinished. That what you read here finds a place in your life would be the loveliest reward we could ask for.
May your October days be filled with warm conversation, beautiful discoveries and moments you will be glad to share.
With love,
Semiha Yardım
